Manager, Audio Visual Operations, AV Systems and Classroom Support

This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT). The Manager of AV Systems and Classroom Support works within the Academic Technology & Innovation team to lead the campus-wide operations of the AV systems installed in all General Purpose Classrooms and additionally assigned learning and conference spaces. Specifically, the Manager is responsible for maintaining, repairing and upgrading modern AV systems, as well as supervision and training of AV technicians and student employees. This individual will lead a dynamic team that provides a high level of customer service, maintains an excellent standard for AV system requirements, manages projects to program/install complex AV systems under constantly changing and demanding timelines, acts as a leader for other campus groups through best practice engagement for AV system management and service and collaborates with key groups to manage equipment lifecycles and direct the future of AV systems and classroom support on campus. This individual will work closely with the Academic Technology & Innovation staff and UMD teaching facilities governance groups to ensure classroom support services are delivered and AV systems are maintained in accordance with campus and DIT standards. We are looking for a passionate, highly driven individual who has great project management, customer service, communications, multi-tasking, and AV troubleshooting skills. The AV Systems and Classroom Support Manager will work under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Classroom Technology and Field Support Services. This person is driven and shows leadership to its group and other groups to work towards the goal of providing a high quality teaching and learning environment to campus. **This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.** Physical Demands: Must be able to operate test equipment, machinery, and AV equipment; use power tools; lift heavy loads up to 50 lbs.; work at heights using ladders and scaffolding; and drive a motor vehicle. Licenses/ Certifications: Valid Driver's license Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) years of audio visual programming experience. One (1) year leading or supervising professional staff. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: • Knowledge of analog and digital technology; electronics; audio and video systems and equipment; computer operation; media control systems; and video teleconferencing. • Knowledge of customized complex electronic and audio visual systems to meet unique needs. • Skill in oral and written communication. • Skill in the use of Google Workspace products. • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
