The Embassy of Australia in Washington DC is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Head Residence Gardener to manage the gardens and grounds across Australian owned properties. Primarily, the position is to provide hands-on horticultural expertise for the Ambassador’s Residence estate. The successful candidate will be a team player, ready to lend a hand in other tasking, such as helping set up and break down for large events and have formal skills and experience in creating a welcoming and peaceful landscape environment. This requires careful planning and maintenance, skilled design, and expert plant care and selection. This position supervises a part-time Assistant Gardener and contract staff as required. The successful candidate will also undertake administrative tasks such as reconcile purchases and credit card acquittals. The Head Gardener is responsible for always maintaining the grounds in a safe and accessible state, including snow and leaf clearing, as well as maintaining the lawn tennis court in conjunction with periodic expert consultation. A US Driver’s License is required as well as the ability to conduct all types of gardening duties including heavy lifting and operating mechanical gardening equipment.
