Economic Advisor

The Embassy of Switzerland in the United States of America located in Washington, D.C., is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time (100%) position as Economic Advisor starting 1 March 2026 or earlier. This position is fully funded for 1 year, prolongation of which will be determined by financing.

In this position you will strengthen and consolidate the Swiss network in the USA in the areas of foreign direct investment and vocational education and training. You will work closely with Swiss General Consulates, the Swiss Business Hub USA, Swissnex and stakeholders both in Switzerland and in US states, counties and cities, implementing the Swiss outreach strategy. You will support visits by Swiss and US delegations in both countries and report on relevant developments in those areas, including collecting information on company and investment activities.

The ideal candidate is an avid networker and experienced from working with both federal and state stakeholders, as well as with the private sector in the areas of investment and workforce development. The position would engage with the political, economic, public diplomacy and science sections of the Embassy, while also engaging the network of Swiss representations in the US to achieve institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Requirements (please do not apply if you do not possess any of these requirements):

- Four-year college/university degree or higher in a relevant field.

- At least five years of relevant professional work experience in government relations, ideally in economics, with US states and local stakeholders, the federal government, congress and relevant associations; experience working at the state level in the field of communications and sponsorship management of US states is an advantage.

- Good understanding of US politics and of the US administration, particularly in the domains of investment, innovation and workforce.

- Highly motivated and proactive.

- Fluency in English with excellent communications, written and spoken.

- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

- Interpersonal skills to solve problems, with a teamwork mentality geared to achieving objectives and solving problems independently.

- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Windows 10, MSTeams.

- Familiarity with Switzerland, its corporate fabric and its system of government and values will be considered an asset.

- Occasional work on weekends and evenings as needed.

- Service-oriented approach toward tasks.

- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent residency status (LPR) only; visa support will not be provided.

- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
